The theme of cultural identity has many interesting events and activities that were held in class, such as
discussions on different readings, making a poster, and blog, which really helps
me to improve my awareness, self-realization and the respect for cultural
identity. It is a great opportunity to explore more various cultures and their conflicts, such as racial discrimination, globalization and Americanization, and
classmates’ cultural backgrounds. For example, the author, Lorraine Ali, has been
treated badly with discrimination because of her half European ancestry and
half Arab. Although, she still has enough courage to fight with the awful issue.
Besides, what attracts me is participating in the blog, although I had never used
it before this semester. I think using the blog can not only show and
display our work online, but also provide a platform for us to communicate and
compete with each other and set up the variety of self-learning goals in order to
improve one’s self-learning standards. Thus, I think the class is attractive
and meaningful.
